Summer Spotlight Author Remy Laurent

Today is Friday, which means another great author is headed your way! Poet/author Ramy Laurent is a talented artist-- he paints vivid pictures and feelings with words. Having just released his first book of poetry, VOICE OF EMOTIONS, Remy is hoping to reach out and touch people with his thoughts and feelings. God crossed our paths by chance and I feel privileged to introduce him to you. Here is his story...

Born and raised on a small Caribbean island called Dominica, (do not mistake Dominica for the Dominican Republic they are two vastly different islands) at the age of 22 I enlisted in the Commonwealth of Dominica police force, I served on the police force for Ten years. At the age of 32 immigrated to the United States Virgin Island. I lived there for a year during that time I pursued my GED, in December of 1997 I took up residence in Orlando Florida. In January of the following year I enrolled in a business program at the Florida Metropolitan University where I pursued my an Associated Degree of Art in Business Administration, upon completion of my AA, I enrolled in the Computer Information Science in which I obtained a Bachelors of Science Degree.

Prior to me enlisting in the police force, I began studies in Short Story and creative writing but, I did not complete the course because I soon after I started my studies I enrolled to become a police officer, With the intention to make a career in the police force I discontinued my studies, but never lose the avid for writing, I would from to time put something into writing just for the purpose of writing. Unfortunately I didn’t save any of my previous writings, I was simply writing because I feel some degree of satisfaction in my writings, It was not until I moved to the United States I started saving my writings, during the process a few of my friends saw my work and suggested that I get them published. Some poems in this collection go as far back as 1997.

This is my first book to ever get published, but whether this becomes a financial success or not, I know for sure writing will continue to be one of my favorite past time.

ABOUT VOICE OF EMOTIONS
Written over the years, Voice of Emotions showcases some of author Remy Laurent’s finest works, speaking about the issues that affect him. Many of his poems are inspired by events of his daily life, some by the lives of other people or the incidents that occurred to him and around him. His poetry also expresses his thoughts on crimes against humanity, rapes and murders, senseless wars going on around the world, or simply foolish activities by people who don’t have any regard for life or other people.

Everyone has a voice but not all choose to be heard. Laurent lets his Voice of Emotions speak for himself and uses it to create a positive impact on others. His writings can help make a difference in another person’s life, by giving them hope and encouragement.


Q: When did you decide you wanted to be a writer?
A: Since I was a child I always had an avid love for writing.

Q: Describe the genre in which you do most of your writing.
A I do most of my writing on inspiration; if something inspires me I write about it,

Q: Who is your target audience?
A: My target audience is everybody. My goal is that anyone who will pick a copy of my writing, I will be able to make an impact on in some way.

Q: How have any of your personal experiences influenced the direction of your writing?
A: Yes, throughout my life I have experienced certain incidents both good and bad, which have sparked the ideas for much of my work.

Q: What motivated you to become a writer?
A My strong desire for writing is whenever I write, that it brings me solace regardless of what situation I am in.

Q: What are your main concerns as a writer?
A: My main concern as a writer is that my writing will make a difference in at least one person’s life for the better.
