I feel like a kid on Christmas morning. There's something about new book covers that always excites me! I wonder what people think when they see it, whether it's appealing to them or translating the story the way I think it should. I do like having some control over what goes on the cover because I feel it's an integral part to a consumer making up their mind if they are going to buy your product. Let's be honest--you can only tell so much from a sparsely worded introduction or blurb. Will this be a story that draws the reader in? Touch them on an emotional level? A lot of times that question can be answered through the cover art alone.
For me, as a writer, if I can look at a photograph and it conjures up the characters I created in my mind, or it conjures up a stirring of emotion similar to what I felt when I was writing the story, that is an image I want to use. It's hard to let other people control that because only I know what I feel. So, I'm always happier when I can have control over at least the basics of the cover.
These two covers were created by me but please don't let that slow you down in sharing your opinion. I want the good, bad and the ugly. Do they compel you, make you smile, make you lust (lol), give you hope for a good story? These are things I need to know for future reference. I have yet to hear from anyone on my FB page about it so I will attempt to reach people here. Please share and let me know your thoughts! It would mean so much. Until next time, love and blessings! Melissa
