Review of The Cookie Jar by Janet Lee Barton

(This novella is part of A CONNECTICUT CHRISTMAS)

Cindy Morrow is thrilled to see her mom's greatest wish--opening a cookie shop--actually come to fruition and thrive. The holidays always brought plenty of customers looking for the tasty, homemade treats on the menu and twins Lydia and Landon were two of Cindy's favorites. They came into the shop regularly with their dad Jonathan, ready to brighten her day. The bond between them, although started in shared grief (Cindy's mom and their mom both died in the same car accident), was growing everyday.

Jonathan worried about the lack of a woman's care for the twins. He was doing his best to be both mother and father but he knew they needed more. When they ask him if Santa can bring them a new mommy, he's at a loss for words. Dating seemed out of the question; it would be like cheating on his deceased wife. When his sister reminds him that his late wife would've wanted him and the kids to be happy, the only woman he wants to get closer to is Cindy, the beautiful cookie lady.

The Cookie Jar is a novella included in the inspirational anthology A CONNECTICUT CHRISTMAS and was my favorite in the book by far. Ms. Barton captures the timeless quality of romance from long ago. Filled with seasonal warmth and inspirational, uplifting messages, Cindy and Jonathan's romance unfolds naturally and realistically. His kids are inquisitive, smart and sweet; you can't help but fall in love with them. The only complaint I have about the story is it wasn't long enough! 5 stars and highly recommended.
