The Twilight Frenzy

I told myself it wouldn't happen, that I'd never give in. I told my niece there was no way I would ever read one of the books and I most definitely wasn't going to see the movie (After all, it pushed back my Harry Potter movie to 2009) I said all of this and fought as hard as I could. But, alas, I finally gave in and decided to read the book. TWILIGHT by Stephanie Meyers. I decided to read it but since I'm not a vampire person at all, I just knew I wasn't going to like it.

Well, it was a good plan but it failed. I read the book in under 7 hours and was immediately hooked. I had to run over to my niece's house and get NEW MOON, the second book in the series which I read the next day. Unfortunately she doesn't have the 3rd book so now I have to wait until after the holidays. But trust me, ECLIPSE and BREAKING DAWN are not far behind!

The thing that drew me into this book were the characters and the wonderfully artistic yet simple style Ms. Meyers has. Many have complained about Bella's obsession with Edward and her low self esteem but to me she came across as a teen aged girl in love for the first time. She is smart, capable (although she doesn't always use common sense), and real. She helplessly clumsy and always manages to get herself into impossible situations. But, where would the story be if she didn't?

Edward and the Cullen family are a special lot. They have full personalities and interesting interactions which showed the depth of their relationships with one another. I liked that the fact they were vampires, while vital to the plot, was not the focus of the book. Edward and Bella were the stars of the show and for me, lived up to the hype!

It is listed as a young adult novel but I believe it is a story of love, redemption and faith that will touch any heart. A definite must read!
